Overview

The Fund with Zelle feature enables merchants to accept customer deposits through Zelle while ensuring accurate identification and reconciliation of payments. Before a customer initiates a transfer, their Zelle ID is validated and linked to their registered name. This prevents callbacks/chargebacks, incorrect transfers and ensures the funds can be reliably attributed once received.

How It Works

1. Customer Zelle ID Validation

The customer provides their Zelle ID (email address or phone number). The system:
  • Validates the Zelle ID to confirm it is active (takes between 12-24 hours)
  • Retrieves the associated account name
  • Confirms the name match the customer provided name before proceeding
This step ensures the Zelle ID belongs to the intended customer.

2. Funding Instruction

Once validation is successful:
  • The merchant shares Sturdy Technologies Zelle ID with their customer
  • The customer initiates a Zelle transfer to the merchant using the Zelle Id
  • The customer must include their user_id with the merchant unique five (5) character prefix as the memo/reference
The memo is required to correctly associate the incoming funds with the customer’s account.

Required Memo Format

When completing the Zelle transfer, the customer must use the following memo: merchant's prefix + user_id Example: STECHusr8f3a21c9 Transfers without the correct memo may result in delayed or failed reconciliation.

Important Notes

  • Only validated Zelle IDs can proceed to funding
  • The customer name returned during validation should be confirmed before payment
  • Each transfer must include a unique merchant's prefix + user_id memo
  • Zelle transfers are subject to bank processing times and limits

Error Handling

Common validation errors include:
  • Invalid or unregistered Zelle ID
  • Unsupported Zelle identifier format
  • Missing or incorrect transfer memo
Ensure proper error messaging is displayed to the customer before retrying.
